Jelgava Municipality schools to work with Datorium.AI, the Latvian-built AI platform for teachers, in the new school year

Jelgava Municipality and the Latvian education technology company Datorium have signed a cooperation agreement to introduce the Datorium.AI artificial intelligence (AI) platform in the schools of Jelgava Municipality. The aim of the partnership is to give teachers practical support in their everyday work, reduce the time spent preparing lessons and marking work, and at the same time encourage safe and meaningful use of AI in education.

In the 2026/2027 school year, teachers in Jelgava Municipality will have access to the Datorium.AI platform, together with training and methodological support in using it. Training for teachers and education specialists is already actively under way, giving them hands-on experience of what the platform can do and preparing them to use it in the classroom.

Datorium.AI – a Latvian-built AI solution for teachers, already used by teachers in 8 countries

Datorium.AI is the leading AI platform for teachers, allowing them to create lesson plans, worksheets, tests, differentiated tasks, presentations, individualised chat assignments and other teaching resources in one place.

The platform is aligned to the Latvian curriculum, and the SOLO and Bloom’s taxonomies built into it let teachers quickly create and differentiate teaching materials to match their pupils’ levels of knowledge and thinking.

Less time on routine preparation and marking, more time working with pupils

One of the most important goals of the partnership is to balance teachers’ workload. Preparing teaching materials, differentiating tasks, drawing up assessment criteria and other preparatory work make up a substantial part of a teacher’s day. On the Datorium.AI platform this work can be done quickly and simply, while the teacher keeps professional control over the learning process.

Datorium.AI lets a teacher prepare materials suited to a particular class and teaching situation more quickly, adjust their level of difficulty to different pupils’ needs, and build a more individualised learning process. This matters especially in inclusive education and in classes where pupils’ levels of knowledge, pace of learning and need for support differ significantly.

At the same time, one of the founding principles of the partnership is safe and responsible use of AI in education. Unlike publicly available general-purpose AI tools, Datorium.AI is built as an environment intended for schools, with particular attention paid to data protection, the teacher’s control over generated content, and the use of AI to achieve specific pedagogical goals. The platform is built in line with European data protection requirements, the AI Act and Latvian Cabinet of Ministers regulations on cybersecurity.

The Jelgava Municipality model therefore brings together two essential conditions for introducing AI in schools successfully — a suitable technological solution and the development of teachers’ professional competence.

“Today AI is no longer a technology of the future – it is already part of our teachers’ everyday reality. Our task is therefore not simply to bring yet another technological tool into schools, but to give teachers support that genuinely helps them in their daily work. We want AI to help teachers save time on routine work, prepare for lessons to a higher standard and devote more time to what matters most – the pupil, their needs and their growth. That is why it was important for us to choose a solution that is understandable, practical and safe, and at the same time to invest in teachers’ knowledge and skills in using it. I believe this partnership will help our teachers not to fear AI, but to see it as a professional ally,” explains Kristīne Strūberga, Head of the Education Board of Jelgava Municipality.

Teachers get training and support in introducing Datorium.AI across every school in Jelgava Municipality

For the introduction of AI in schools to be meaningful and sustainable, access to the technology alone is not enough. A key part of the partnership is therefore teacher training and practical support in using the platform.

Both in-person and online training for teachers is already actively under way, with teachers learning in practice how to use what the platform offers, each in their own subject. Every subject from year 1 to year 12 is available on the platform.

The Datorium team will continue to support teachers after the initial training, helping them integrate the platform into everyday teaching step by step.

The partnership between Jelgava Municipality and Datorium shows a joined-up approach in which AI is introduced into education at municipal level — giving teachers not only the technology, but also the knowledge, the methodological support and a safe environment in which to use it.
